Our Journey
Milestones That Shaped Us
TAWAH Founded
Tanzania Women Architects for Humanity (TAWAH) was established in Dar es Salaam by visionary women architects committed to empowering women in the construction industry and building sustainable communities.
Improvement of Traditional Maasai House, Ololosokwan
In partnership with the UNESCO Tanzania Office, TAWAH trained 27 Maasai women builders and constructed two affordable, durable, and smoke-free homes.
Mbwepande Homes for Affected Flood Victims
In response to devastating floods, TAWAH constructed six homes for displaced families relocated to Mabwepande sheltered 36 households.
Pongwe Primary School
TAWAH constructed a three-classroom block for children with special needs in Pongwe. The facility serves up to 135 children annually with disabilities.
Jokate Mwegelo Secondary School
TAWAH designed and supervised the construction of a master plan, two classroom block, and a girls' hostel in Kisarawe in response to TOKOMEZA ZERO Campaign.
Women in Construction Mentorship Program
TAWAH launched the first cohort of Women in construction mentorship program with aim of nurturing young graduates from university transition from academia to professional development.
TAWAH Vocational Training Centre for Women
"Built by the women for women" Established as a space for empowerment and growth, equipping women with practical construction skills, fostering self-reliance, and opening pathways into the building sector.
Construction of Decent Elderly Homes
TAWAH Women builders building safe and dignified homes for the elderly living in vulnerable communities in Kisarawe region.
WASH Programs for Youth in Secondary Schools
A beacon to nurturing of safe and health environments with provision of career guidance initiatives and mentorship to youth.
Improved Sanitation and Affordable Housing
In partnership with Habitat for Humanity Tanzania, TAWAH constructed 11 homes for vulnerable families led by women as sole providers, 6 homes built in Maga Village, Kisarawe, and 5 homes in Chanika, Dar es Salaam.
World Habitat Gold Award Winner
Awarded the prestigious 2025 UN-Habitat World Habitat Gold Award — the highest global recognition for our transformative work in housing and community development.
Inaugurations of Elderly Hub
Launch of Elderly Hub: 4th February 2026. A testament to the power of collaboration between World Habitat Awards, TAWAH team and Kyaro Assistives united by a noble cause: Creating a safe, dignified, and healthy social interaction space for elders in the Mhaga community and beyond. In loving memory of Bibi Kisozi!
