As part of TAWAH’s tradition of celebrating Nyerere Day (14/10/2019), this year we decided to visit the Nunge Home for Elderly, in Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam. Mwalimu Nyerere established the Nunge Home for Elderly in 1936 and it currently houses 24 wazee, 9 women and 15 men. It was a blessing to be able to spend time with our wazee who have done a lot for our country, but now they need us. Our wazee need our support, love and care. Our wazee have so many stories from different parts of Tanzania that they shared some with us. As a small gesture of love and appreciation, the TAWAH team raised funds and bought a cow (mama Loy) who is six months pregnant and collected clothes that were handed over to our wazee on November 10, 2019. Our wazee, with the help of their caretaker, will be able to look after mama Loy and improve their lives through keeping active and getting fresh milk.
